The sanskrit word "prana" means lifeforce, or the energy which flows through all things. "Ayama" means to strengthen, stretch, or expand. Because the breath is the body’s life force, the practice of pranayama is intentional patterns of breathing, meant to help one deepen concentration, go inward, and bring inner balance. By working with the breath, we are mindfully taking in energy, directing that energy, and then letting it go with control. In this class, we will be working with some basic breathing exercises to create internal heat and awareness and then incorporate breathing exercises into a basic flow. This class is completely open to beginners and learned practitioners alike! Our focus is breath, but we will explore bandhas and mudras as well.
