Yoga Anatomy - Yin, Yang, and In Between!

WOW- do we have a day planned for you!  This is the biggest day of workshops we have hosted yet, and WE CAN'T WAIT.  Matt Eshleman will be guiding us through 3 workshops, each focusing on a different aspect of the body.  In the middle of the day, we'll have an opportunity to rest and reset with a two hour Yin Yoga Masterclass.  So often, learning anatomy is daunting, however, Matt shares this information in an interactive manner that displays how this knowledge applies to you and your students.

All workshops provide CEU's for Yoga Alliance certified yoga instructors.

(includes Yin Yoga Masterclass)

Yin Theory & Anatomy 10:00 - 12:30p

In this workshop, we will focus on the basic Taoist concepts of Yin & Yang.  We will look from an anatomical perspective as to why we do Yin Yoga the way we do, including theory of exercise and targeting difference types of tissues.  In order to access tissues, we also must have an understanding of our skeletal structure and how it impacts our access to our tissues.  We will look at:

  • our individual range of motion
  • the difference between tension and compression
  • skeletal variations and the implications for both practicing and teaching

Please bring a notebook and a pen to take notes!

Cost: $35 Registration

Subtle Anatomy 1:30 - 3:30p

Subtle anatomy receive the least emphasis in yoga, but probably has some of the greatest impact.  In this workshop, we will discuss the ancient description of meridian lines, the lines through which our energy flows, and modern meridian theory.  In addition, we will take a look at fascia, how it relates to meridians, its nature, and location.  Lastly, we'll put it all together and see the practical application of the meridian model to our yoga asana.
Please bring a notebook and pen for notes!

Cost: $30 Registration

Yang Anatomy 5:30 - 8:00p

The most applicable anatomy in vinyasa yoga, yang anatomy will focus on the fundamentals of muscular action in regards to our vinyasa practice.  We will look at functional target areas and do functional analysis on common hatha yoga postures.  We will also discuss the impact that our individual anatomical differences have on our yoga postures.
